About Corn Islands – Little Corn Island

The Corn Islands are two islands, Big Corn and Little Corn islands, located about 70 kilometres (43 miles) East of the Caribbean coast of Nicaragua, constituting one of 12 municipalities of the South Caribbean Coast Autonomous Region. Truly an oasis of tranquility and a refreshing break from the hustle and bustle of the mainland with NO cars, NO motorcylces or any combustion engine vehicles – apart from boats.

This island was first inhabited by Native Americans such as Garifino or Miskito. The island was colonized by the British, and most native islanders have more in common culturally with other English-speaking Caribbean islands than they do with the mainland of Nicaragua. Many have English surnames. The people on the island are typically friendly, laid back and genuine.

Accommodations and facilities on the island are still in its infancy and what is there is small, basic and thus far, fairly eco-friendly. There is still a lot of potential and room for growth. Note that tourism to the corn island has been increasing in the past year, as the island offer memorable scuba diving and free diving spots in the Caribbean. You can scuba dive in Corn Island for as cheap as $15-20 per dive if you take a package!

If you are looking for a great atmosphere and tranquility, where you can chill out and enjoy the spoils of simpler island life, then the corn island are definitely for you. It can also be a great 2-5 years project, and time away from urban zones.

About Lighthouse Hotel:

Perched on a half acre of pristinely lush jungle land, The Lighthouse Hotel hosts one of the most beautiful views of Little Corn Island. The hotel slopes gracefully atop the highest point of the island where 8 individual cabanas face 180 degree views of tropical land and sparkling Caribbean waters.

The hotel is set up in a beautiful bow shape, where each private cabana has its own bathroom and porch with hammock and enough privacy to feel comfortable yet the wonderful feeling of community when you overlook at the land.

While the cabanas are basic, they are built with love and integrity and are comfortable and safe for visitors of all kinds, from the rustic backpacker to the romantic honeymooners. The beautifully planned layout, tropical essence, and welcoming ambiance of this hotel are what give it a place to remember feeling. This hotel was not built to just house people on vacation, it was labored and sculpted and refined to make memories and create an experience that will stay with the guest for a lifetime.

Every inch of this wooden hotel is hand crafted by the owners, using locally sourced Nicaraguan pine to create the rustic feel this hotel possess. The owners painstakingly put all of their effort, along with a small local crew, into beautiful workmanship to create an at home feel.

The grounds are lush with tropical flowers and trees beckoning visitors into this little island paradise. While the hotel is a bit off the main road it is close enough to run down to the local store or go for a sunset beach walk, but far enough away to feel the complete serenity of being on a remote island.

The lodge has two extra water tank of 2500 liters each, so you’re sure to not run out of water!

About the restaurant and bar:

At the base of the grounds is The Lighthouse restaurant and bar, an open air venue with gorgeous views and an ambient atmosphere. Here you can watch the world go by while eating chef crafted quality cuisine and sipping on a ice cold local beer.

The Lighthouse Restaurant is fully running and comes with trained staff, systems, and all recipes and provider list. The restaurant can sit 35/40 people.

The restaurant uses the best and freshest ingredients available by sourcing locally as much as possible: fish is bought right on the beach to fisherman (Kingfish, Jackfish, Red Snapper, Mahi Mahi…), greens are grown on an island farm or directly on site in the gardens (basil, mint, lettuce, arugula, kale…), and the famous coconut bread is home baked down the street and delivered every morning.

The chefs limit processed ingredients for more flavors and healthier meals. The buns of their delightful burgers are handmade from scratch and they also choose to grill most of them instead of frying them. For ethical reasons, lobster is not served during off-season (April – June).

About the business:

The Lighthouse Hotel has been running very successfully between 2015-2018, with 90% occupancy, and generating extra income with restaurant and bar sales, but also goodies sales (t-shirts) and special events such as Taco Night and Sunday Funday. This charming lodge has a lot of potential and can host different events and concepts.

The business was partially closed during 2018-2020 due to tourism fluctuation and international health pandemic. The owners used this time to do some expansion and maintenance.  Currently, the lodge is fully opened and generating a fair income.  Don’t miss this incredible opportunity.
